The game

One egg. Twenty waves.

Eggcentric is a top-down arena survivor built in Godot 4. Your weapons aim and fire on their own. You move, survive, and make quick loadout decisions between waves. The final wave is a boss fight. Beat it to win the run.

Wave 13, The Quarry
  1. 1.Survive the wave

The timer counts down. Weapons aim and fire on their own. You move, dodge, and stay alive. Waves get longer and denser.

  2. 2.Grab materials

Killed aliens drop green materials. They are both currency and XP, and they magnetise toward you.

  3. 3.Level up

Each level offers a pick of stat upgrades. Bank the rest of your materials for the shop.

  4. 4.Shop and fuse

Buy weapons (up to six) and passive items, reroll offers, or lock one for later. Two identical weapons fuse into a higher tier.

Choose your egg

Twelve shells, twelve playstyles

Each egg changes the run. Some restrict what the shop sells, some trade armor for dodge, some build turrets so you do not have to aim. The original Egg is available from the start; the rest unlock through play.

  • Egg

Balanced shell. No gimmicks - just blast.

  • Hard-Boiled

Dense shell. Slow, stubborn, and hits like a brick.

  • Ninja Egg

    Slippery. Dodges everything, blocks nothing.

  • Sunny Side Sprint

Never stops moving. Thin shell, fast hands.

  • Dino Egg

Big claws, no guns. Gets in your face.

  • Dragon Egg

Everything it touches catches fire. Including itself, a little.

  • Robo-Egg

Builds things that shoot for it. Terrible aim itself.

  • Chef Egg

Knows a guy. Every shop is a discount shop.

  • Scrambled

Nobody knows what it'll be next wave. Not even it.

  • Vampire Egg

Heals by hurting. Honey does nothing for it.

  • Faberge

Priceless and fragile. Shatters everything before it shatters.

  • Golden Egg

Rolls in it. Too heavy with coin to hit hard.

Arenas

Five floors, five problems

Every arena has its own floor and its own hazard. Grease slows you, hay blocks shots, fans shove, conveyors carry. The Quarry is open from the start. The others unlock as you win on higher Danger.

  • The Quarry: Cracked rock, no surprises.

    Fusion

Two identical weapons fuse into a higher tier. Some pairs of different weapons have their own recipe.

  • The wave 7 mini-boss arena

    Mini-bosses

Waves 7 and 14 bring a mini-boss. Wave 20 brings two at once.

  • The Omelette boss charging at the egg on wave 14

  • A Horde Rush event on the Space Station with conveyor belts

Steam Deck

Plays great on Deck

Eggcentric ships a native Linux build, so it runs on Steam Deck with no compatibility layer. The UI is built for the Deck's 16:10 screen and a controller. Adding it to your library takes about two minutes.

The Eggcentric title screen
Download the Linux build
  • The UI is built for 16:10 and a controller, so it fits the Deck screen with no tweaks.
  • Controller support works out of the box. Use the default Gamepad layout if Steam asks.
  • The game updates itself. Open Options on the title screen and choose Check for Updates.
  • Keep the game in a folder you can write to so the built-in updater can swap files.
  1. 1

    Switch to Desktop Mode

Hold the Power button and choose Switch to Desktop, or open the Steam menu, then Power, then Switch to Desktop.

  2. 2

    Download the Linux build

Open a browser in Desktop Mode and download Eggcentric-Linux.zip from this page. Save it somewhere you will keep it, such as a folder in Home.

  3. 3

    Extract the zip

Right-click the zip and choose Extract Here. You will get a folder containing Eggcentric.x86_64 and its .pck file. Keep them together.

  4. 4

    Mark it executable if asked

Right-click Eggcentric.x86_64, open Properties, then Permissions, and tick Is executable. Most Decks already have this set.

  5. 5

    Add it to Steam

In Steam, choose Games, then Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library. Click Browse, change the file type filter to All Files, pick Eggcentric.x86_64, and click Add Selected Programs.

  6. 6

    Return to Gaming Mode

Double-click Return to Gaming Mode on the desktop. Eggcentric is in your Library under Non-Steam. No compatibility layer is needed because it is a native Linux build.

Eggcentric 2.2.1 — Fire trails and combat feedback

  • Better burning enemies: flowing, translucent flames wrap the visible enemy artwork, with rising embers and readable faces. Blue ground fire gives enemies matching blue flames. Reduced-effects settings remain supported.
  • Continuous fire trails: Molten Mocha paints an unbroken flame trail as you move, including at dash speed. Each section burns out after 0.85 seconds; standing still does not create more fire.
  • Blue-fire dashes: dashing with a fire-trail powerup creates blue flames at double ordinary trail damage for 0.45 seconds. Rocket Fuel also uses the continuous blue trail.
  • Ignitable slime: your trail and weapon fire patches ignite slime into smaller orange or blue flame pools. They last at most 0.9 seconds, are capped at four active pools, and cannot trigger a chain reaction. Overlapping trail and ignited-pool damage uses the strongest source instead of stacking.
  • Ricochet Pistol balance: keeps its two bounces and firing cadence, but tier-1 damage now falls from 8 to 5 to 3 across three enemies. Flat damage bonuses scale at 60%, and each bounce retains 65% damage.
  • Slime Gun balance: base cooldown increased from 0.45 to 1.25 seconds, with the slower cadence preserved through weapon upgrades.
  • New combat sounds: a frying-pan clang on enemy contact, a new Taser Baton zap, and a new level-up chime at its original pitch.

Existing progress and settings are retained. Includes the combat, progression, Danger, and engineering changes from 2.2.0.
